About the Smart Chip
HP Color LaserJet Pro M255 and MFP M283 series printers require a chip on each toner cartridge to communicate with the printer. These Linford 206X compatible cartridges come with a pre-installed smart chip that supports toner level monitoring and seamless printer recognition.
No chip transfer needed. These cartridges are ready to use straight from the packaging.
How to Install HP 206X Toner Cartridges
- Open the front cover of your HP Color LaserJet Pro printer
- Pull the toner cartridge drawer out to access the cartridge slots
- Remove the old cartridge from the slot being replaced
- Take the new 206X cartridge from its packaging and shake it gently 5–6 times side to side to evenly distribute the toner
- Remove the protective pull tab completely
- Insert the new cartridge firmly into the correct color slot until it clicks
- Close the printer cover — if prompted with a non-HP cartridge message, press OK to continue printing
If print density appears light: Remove the cartridge, gently rock it side to side, reinstall and test again.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this pack include all four colors? Yes. This 4-pack contains one each of HP 206X black (W2110X), cyan (W2111X), magenta (W2113X), and yellow (W2112X) — all with pre-installed chips.
What is the difference between HP 206A and HP 206X? Both fit the same printers. HP 206A is standard yield (1,350 BK / 1,250 color pages); HP 206X is high yield (3,150 BK / 2,450 color pages). The 206X delivers a lower cost per page for regular printing.
Do I need to transfer a chip from my old cartridge? No. Each cartridge in this pack comes with a pre-installed smart chip. There is no chip transfer needed.
My printer shows a firmware update message after installing. What should I do? Select "Close" or "Later" — do not install the update. HP firmware updates can block compatible cartridges. We recommend disabling automatic firmware updates on your printer. See our full guide here.
